HMP Chelmsford Employer Celebration Event Highlights Rehabilitation and Inclusion

On January 16th 2025, we proudly supported and attended the HMP Chelmsford Employer Celebration event, recognizing employers who support prison leavers returning to employment. Impellam Group partners with HMP Chelmsford and others to help reduce reoffending by providing individuals with new skills, stable jobs, and a path to independence.

Employment is key to reducing reoffending

Employment is important in reducing reoffending, providing a stable foundation for individuals reintegrating into society after serving their sentences. Securing a job offers financial independence and instills a sense of purpose and responsibility, which are essential for fostering a positive self-image and a productive lifestyle.

Employment also helps to reduce the stigma of a criminal record by showing commitment to rehabilitation and community contribution. It addresses root causes like lack of skills and social isolation, helping to break the cycle of reoffending and promote societal stability.

Impellam’s collaboration with HMP Chelmsford

"Our collaboration with HMP Chelmsford and other institutions underscores our unwavering commitment to supporting prison leavers,” states Simon Blockley, Chief Executive Officer, Impellam UK & Europe.

“Employment is more than a job; it is a pathway to dignity, purpose, and a renewed sense of belonging. Together, we are not just filling positions, but transforming lives and fostering a safer, more inclusive society. We are so pleased to be here today to celebrate the work businesses and organisations are carrying out to contribute to this."

Supporting HMP and YOI Drake Hall

HMP Chelmsford is not the only prison Impellam has been working with. Hoa Ngo, Managing Director at Comensura is chair of the EAB for HMP and YOI Drake Hall, a progressive resettlement prison that promotes a culture of hope and aspiration to the women it serves, working with New Futures Network.

She says: “The work at Drake Hall is inspiring. Many former prisoners want to reintegrate into society, reconnect with family and friends, find new interests, and build a life. To do this successfully, they need jobs.

Employers like Halfords, Veolia, and DHL benefit from this motivated talent pool. With low unemployment and many job vacancies, encouraging these women offers businesses opportunities for growth.”
